In light of my latest post for the Brazen Careerist blog, Leave These Basic Resume Mistakes in The Dust, I decided to check out a brand new online job board that is specifically geared toward Gen Y professionals and the changing economy, Confidently.
Now, when I say brand new, I mean brand new. It was just launched in an effort to help Gen Y and employers keep up with the dynamics of our changing economy.
A bloody brilliant concept if you ask me.
How does Confidently work?
Confidently is a service for college students and recent graduates whose purpose is to connect these young individuals with potential employers in our changing economy.
Confidently believes that the world has changed for our generation, and their mission is to provide an online job service to help them change with it. Consequently, Confidently only posts entry-level jobs and internships – both of which Gen Y needs.
Through searching, networking, and interacting, Confidently strives to find the right job for each of it’s members. All it takes on your part is to sign up and start searching. You can see exactly how Confidently works by checking out their Get Confident page.
What kind of resources do they offer?
One thing I really liked about Confidently was their helpful resources. They have an entire list of websites and articles specifically geared toward Gen Y professionals and/or the changing world economy. You may have even heard of a couple of them, like GradSpot and Brand-Yourself.
I believe this gives them a unique edge over more traditional online job boards that give the same generic advice which may not apply to our current job market
Is it free?
No. Top apply for positions found through Confidently you must become a member at a one time cost of $7.99.
The reason Confidently charges is because of how much they do for their members. For instance, employers can post for free which makes it easier for small and local businesses to find employees and interns (the same people who don’t have monstrous corporate America HR budgets for the traditional job boards). Once Confidently receives the posts they are individually screened to ensure that they fit the Gen Y vision. Furthermore, if the job ad is from an employment agency Confidently makes sure to notify you. Most of all, rather than having thousands of employers and individuals blindly dealing with resumes, Confidently strives to place all its members in a position suited for them.
This is the exact opposite of traditional job boards which have a lot of crap in them, thousands of people applying for the same job, and no clear way of knowing which ads are from a staffing agency.
So basically, for less than 10 bucks you will get you a beneficial service rather than thousands of random and crappy job ads. And hey, that’s way cheaper than going to an employment agency.
