Welcome to the brand new Grad Meets World!
For those of you who are new here, this blog originally started in November 2010 when a clueless 22 year old decided it was high time she started getting her life together.
My name is Amanda and I’m only slightly less clueless than I was a year ago.
The Beginning 2010
When I graduated from college I moved back home to a city that had (and still has) one of the worst unemployment rates in the country. I kind of panicked and ended up taking a month long trip in Europe with a backpack and no plans – all in an effort to teach myself that life has a way of figuring itself out. I then spent 6 months looking for a traditional job and started learning about how to make extra income as a freelance writer. I also had to deal with the whole moving back home thing which was enough to make me wonder if I was even on the right path.
The Adventure That Was 2011
Since then I have found a full time job and currently work as an administrator and recruiter for a local employment agency. I also still make extra money as a freelance writer for private clients, started getting my money stuff in order and have begun to finally understand this whole adulthood thing.
You can read about my 2011 successes through the best posts of 2011 that can be found in the very first ebook Grad Meets World: The First Year Out of College. It’s full of first hand advice that helped me get my post-grad life in order – from health and fitness to career and money. You can also check out many of the previous posts that jumpstarted this blog over in the newsletter archives. For an even more in depth look into the first year of Grad Meets World feel free to check out GMW videos over on Vimeo. You can also check out a couple of interviews here and here and read my posts over on Brazen Careerist.
What Is Yet to Come in 2012
Grad Meets World will continue to strive to provide advice and resources for 20somethings making their way into adulthood. Just because we started figuring things out doesn’t mean there won’t be a long haul ahead. Feel free to join me on this journey by subscribing to the email list, following me on Twitter or becoming a fan on Facebook. If you’d like to contribute a guest post feel free to shoot an email to abella [dot] amanda [at] gmail [dot] com and I’ll get back to you ASAP – after all, this isn’t just my adventure, it’s all of ours.
