Great Blogs for People Who Want to Be Their Own Boss

Bossholes. Lol.

After a near panic attack a couple of weeks ago, I realized that I am seriously slacking on the side business.

Granted, this is not completely my fault. I work at my day job…a lot. It was to the point where I had no control over my time and it was driving me up the wall.

I’m a planner. I don’t do well with on the fly schedules. Hence, my left eyelid has been twitching for almost a week.

And so I made the decision to start taking some time off from the day job so that I would have time to work on my side business. After all, as much as I enjoy my day job, I don’t really see myself working for anyone but myself. By the same token, I have a huge fear of getting “stuck” at a job.

And besides, I have shit to do. I can’t even schedule a dentist appointment because I never know what my schedule will be from one day to the next.

So, newly inspired by the many fabulous entrepreneurship interviews I wrote about last week, I have now collected a list of some great blogs belonging o freelance writers.

Please note that just because I prefer to make some extra money as a writer does not mean that others feel the same. If this is the case for you then take these blogs as examples of people who either bypassed or left corporate America and became their own bosses.

And so, without further ado, here are some great blogs for your enjoyment.

Make a Living Writing

This is the blog of Carol Tice,  where she gives freelance writers frank advice about their careers. I personally love Carol’s sincerity and her monthly installment of 10 Best Articles for Writers.

After I Quit My Day Job

Kat Richter is a columnist for AOL’s City’s Best Philadelphia where she writes about her dating adventures in the City of Brotherly Love. She’s also a dance educator. All in all, her blog is wicked entertaining.

Write to Done

Leo Babauta has done it again. Not only is he the mastermind by one of the world’s top blogs, Zen Habits, he also has a blog specifically dedicated to helping freelance writers and bloggers.

My Daily Diatribes by Caroline Pollock

I actually know Caroline personally and met her through a college roommate. Caroline is extra special among this list because she is not only a freelance writer, she is also a single mother with an adorable kid. This, however, is no average mommy blog. Caroline has no fear of expressing her opinions and has a sharp tongue enforced by side splitting wit at her disposal.

After Nine to Five

Ok, so this particular blogger is not necessarily a freelance writer, but she is self-employed! Ashley quit her day job to pursue a dream: to be her own boss. Ashely currently runs After 9 to 5, a blog where she chronicles her entrepreneurial endeavors, co-authors Love Without Training Wheels where she delves into relationships, and has her own Etsy shop Nine to Five Designs.

Hopefully the next time I update I will have some exciting updates!
