Money.
Equal parts your best friend and your worst enemy. It either gets you things or gets you into trouble. Or well, more accurately speaking lack of money gets you into trouble.
If there’s one thing we’re totally clueless about when we enter adulthood it’s money. We don’t even want to deal with the amount of credit card debt we’ve piled on, a 401k sounds like a foreign language, and we dread the day those student loan payments take effect.
Most of the time we graduate not knowing a budget from our own asses and many of us end up learning about personal finance the hard way. Fortunately, there are a few financial blogs out there that are geared toward our generation. The rules of the game have changed for us, and these blogs will help you through into the last quarter.
GenY Wealth aims to help 20somethings with the basic principles of personal finance. It is their firm belief (and apparent fact) that the earlier you start the better.
The blog is run by RJ Weiss who holds a degree in finance from Eastern Illinois University. He continued his education, logged in hard hours of full time work for three years, and as of 2010 is a Certified Financial Planner. In other words, this cat knows what he’s talking about.
You won’t just find tips about numbers though, you’ll find practical advice that will not only help you prosper but perhaps even change your attitude about money. He also searches the web to bring you some of the best financial pieces out there. All in all, this blog should be a staple in your Google Reader and in your financial life.
We all want financial independence. In fact, we crave it. Granted, the current economical situation forced a lot of us to move back home and work crazy hours for ridiculous pay (if you could even find a job). The current economic situation also has CNN calling frugality the new black.
Frugality is just a part of the equation though. There’s also the part where your income has to increase. Enter 20something Finance, a shining example of hour to combine frugality with increasing your wealth. This blog is the mother lode of all things you need to know in order to get your finances in order and build your wealth.
I’m actually one of those people who read the book before they read the blog. Since the book was pretty much FANTASTIC I figured the blog wouldn’t fail me, and I was right. Great financial advice that works for our generation (you know, the people who aren’t afraid of online banks) bundled in a great presentation with practical tips and a lot of wit. A definite must read for the 20something (or any-something, really) trying to get it together.
These three blogs should give you a pretty good head start on getting your finances in order. Remember, the sooner you do it the better. Take it from someone who started figuring out this budget stuff not too long ago, it makes a big difference to know how much money comes in, where it’s going, and how you can make more of it.
Thanks so much Amanda for the kind words. Put my blog in great company.
You’re welcome! Keep up the great work on your blog!
