As 2011 comes to a close I figured it would be a great time to list off some of my favorite Gen Y blogs of the year. Some of these blogs I’ve known about for quite some time while others I came across relatively recently. Regardless, these are the Gen Y blogs that managed to make a positive impact in my life – and i’m sure those of many others – in 2011.
I’m warning you ahead of time…this list is going to be pretty long.
There’s a reason why Life After College keeps getting nods from countless blogs including ProBlogger and Brazen Careerist - it’s because it ROCKS. Jenny Blake practically speaks for a generation through the posts of her very colorful and very real blog. It is because I stumbled onto this blog towards the end of 2010 that I was able to start getting my life in order and start a blog of my own. I and many other Millenials owe a lot to this young blogger who has accomplished so much in her 20s and it’s really no wonder to any of us why she’s encountered so much success.
Make sure to check out the Life After College book review I did back in March!
Diana Antholis not only provides practical advice for TwentySomethings entering adulthood, she also gives these TwentySomethings a platform where they can share their own voices. Consequently, Enter: Adulthood isn’t just a blog for TwentySomethings, it’s turned into a flourishing community by TwentySomethings thanks to Diana’s willingness to open her blog’s platform to others.
She’s also an exceptional entrepreneur as she strives to help others unleash their sexy and become their best selves. You can learn more about Diana, her blog and her adventures by watching this Kick Ass Conquer Your Career interview we did.
The Boomerang Kid holds a special place in my heart, because, well, I am a boomerang kid. Through her blog Lindsay Hunt chronicles her adventures as she moves back home with her parents to start her own online marketing company. She provides great advice and motivation for those Millenials who have decided to take a risk and take control of their own professional lives. You can learn more about Lindsay by watching a video interview we did back in November.
Cordelia Calls It Quits is a great personal development blog by quirky and wildly entertaining blogger, Kelly Gurnett. This blog also holds a special place in my heart because, like me, she’s still holding down the 9 to 5 while making her best efforts to create the life she really wants.
In the blog she discusses those pesky things in life that she’s quitting in order to live the best life possible. Some of the best parts includes her raw honesty and the featured Reader Quits where guest bloggers open up about what they plan to quit in order to improve their lives.
Keep an eye out on this one, guys! She’s got an ebook coming out soon and I see VERY big things happening in this blogger’s future.
Justice Wordlaw IV is a Gen Y powerhouse of internet marketing. He’s got contagious spunk, drive and charisma that helps him accomplish his professional goals while reaching out to Gen Y. In 2011 he created Gen Y Rants, a blog solely dedicated to millenials striving to nip life in the bud. I’d also keep a close eye on this one, he’s always got something up his sleeve!
Ashley Ambirge always manages to read my mind and post EXACTLY what I need to hear. I also get the feeling she has this super power when it comes to other millenials and entrepreneurs as well. If you want to learn how to rock at life and business while wearing six inch heels, traveling the world and writing vulgar titles then this is your girl. She doesn’t sugar coat it people, she gives a you a kick in the balls when you most need it.
All Groan Up is another one of my favorites from 2011. Paul Angone mixes life’s biggest roller coasters – like becoming a Dad for the first time – with his larger than life personality and quirky antics. I really don’t think it can get any more raw and honest than All Groan Up. (P.S. Paul, if you are reading this – I definitely cried watching the videos of you put together of your daughter’s birth. Congrats!)
Every time I read this blog I nearly pee my pants from laughter. I also end up feeling a) like I’m not alone when I have my occasional “life is overwhelming” freak outs and b) motivated to go kick life in the ass. Nicole has a personality that is much larger than her blog and has gotten her quite a following on the web.
I actually just discovered this blog not too long ago and I LOVE IT! When I Grow Up Coach strives to help creative types create and pursue a career they’ve always dreamed of. Through the blog Michelle Ward chronicles her adventures as a life coach, entrepreneur and performer as well as providing how to’s that she’s learned along the way for those of you who want to to pursue a more creative lifestyle. If you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up I strongly suggest clicking here to start figuring it out!
I’m not mentioning the Brazen Life Blog just because I happen to write for them, I’m mentioning them because they are one of THE best career blogs for GenY professionals. It’s not mom and dad’s work world anymore – and Brazen Careerist is well aware of this.
Brazen Careerist uses unique strategies, like their online networking events, to help young professionals and college students land a good job. Their blog also provides tips and tricks that are relevant to TODAY’s professional – like how to deal with moving back home or working at an unpaid internship. Last but not least, they have AWESOME bootcamps to help you achieve your professional goals with their latest one being, How to Get a Job You Will Love.
Did I miss any FANTABULOUS blogs? Feel free to share them in the comments section!

Thank you so much for including me in this list of amazing bloggers! It means a lot to me, especially as you’ve been my “one step ahead” example for a while now…If I can have half the success in 2012 that you’ve had in 2011, it will be a good year. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for you this year, either!

Cordelia recently posted..Dear Future Me
I’m sure you can have all that success and more! You remind me a lot of myself – making the best of sitting in an office but working our butts off to live the life we want. As long as we keep pushing no one will be able to stop us
Happy New Year!
